Serving Opportunities

Joshua's Place

Joshua’s Place exists to help families overcome the barriers in their life that cause instability.  We have over 250 volunteers that serve in various areas.  We host a monthly orientation to help you get plugged in. Learn More

One of the core values of The Village Church is to be a Missional Community that reflects God’s heart to go to the least, the last, and the lost in our community and the world. This attitude is an extension of God’s love and missionary activity as embodied by Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Just as Jesus was sent, we too are learning what it means to be sent. Check out how you can get involved with our local mission work below.

Global Missions
Serving outside our borders has a way of taking us out of our comfort zone and a step closer to fulfilling our call to go and make disciples of all nations. Since 2009, we have been making trips to La Limonada in Guatemala City to serve the least, the last and the lost. Through our partnership with Lemonade International, we are currently sponsoring 120 children and teachers from La Limonada, as well as Pastor Shorty as he continues to plant churches in the darkest of places.

Local Missions
We don’t have to look outside our community, our neighborhood or even our own household to find people we can serve. Local missions begins when Christ followers take a meal to a sick friend, babysit for a single mom, tutor a fatherless child or stand by an addicted relative. At The Village Church, we encourage our community to live this missionary lifestyle through their existing relationships.

Beyond this, we also understand that we can make a big impact through focusing a group of people and resources on a targeted need. To this end, we have opened Joshua’s Place, which is targeted at breaking the cycle of addiction, despair and generational poverty found in our community.

Joshua was a leader appointed by God to take a wandering and hopeless group of Israelites into the promised land, the place of God’s presence that is full of abundance and blessing. Like Joshua, we believe that God has placed The Village Church in this community to walk with and lead people into the modern day promised land; a place of freedom that can only be found in following Jesus Christ.

Celebrate Recovery

Addictions come in many forms, but ultimately they lead the addicted to a place of despair, loneliness and destruction.   With a mission to “give people an opportunity to become fully engaged followers of Christ,” The Village Church is committed to being a place that people can find their way from addiction to freedom.

To this end, we host weekly step-by-step Christ-centered addiction recovery meetings called Celebrate Recovery.  These meetings are aimed at helping you break free from your current addiction or moving you further down the road in your recovery.  It is God’s desire that we live in relationship with Him, a relationship that is marked by intimacy and freedom.  With a Christ-centered approach to recovery, we believe everyone has a chance to truly experience the life God has planned for them.

All meetings are open to the public and we encourage you to bring friends.

Free Store

The Free Store is a place for people living in the Village of South Lebanon and surrounding communities who due to current life circumstances, would benefit from receiving free food, hygiene items and household supplies on a regular basis. The Free Store is stocked with items such as, chicken, beef, milk, cereal, canned fruit, pasta, toothpaste, shampoo, diapers, formula, laundry detergent, kitchen and bathroom cleaners. Only non-expired items of the highest quality items are available. Individuals participating in the Free Store can select the food and products they want from a menu of available items. If you wish to donate items to the Free Store, you can pick up a bag at the Joshua’s Place table on Sunday mornings along with a current list of needed supplies. If you decide to donate, we ask that you only purchase items in the sizes they are listed.

The Free Store is open on Wednesday from 5:30 – 7:30 pm and Saturday from 10:00 – 12:00 pm on the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month. Participants are able to visit the Free Store every two weeks at a specified time of their choice (based on available time slots).

In order to maintain eligibility at the free store, participants are required to meet with a coordinator for 15 minutes during each visit. During this time with the coordinator, individuals will update us with new information, walk through a short devotional and share any prayer requests they have for themselves or their family. Some may ask why this is necessary in order to participate in the Free Store. The answer is simple: like God, we are concerned about the whole person: body, mind and spirit. We are all on a spiritual journey of some kind and the time spent with the coordinator allows us to build stronger relationships with one another, gives you an opportunity to share additional needs with us and provides all of us with a time for spiritual strengthening.

Participation in the Free Store is limited. If you are interested in participating, the first step is to complete an application in one of the following ways:

  1. Call Joshua’s Place at 494-2001

  2. Stop by the our offices located in the South Lebanon Community Center

  3. Download an application
